YOUTH SAILING LESSONS

  • Classes taught by US Sailing Certified Instructors
  • Sailors are welcome to take one, two or all three sessions
  • Boats and equipment are provided to sailors participating in the “Learn to Sail” Program

Walnut Valley Sailing Club offers youth sailing classes. Our US Sailing certified instructors teach to all skill levels and are offered at different times to accommodate youth schedules. Youth classes meet during the day in the summer. Sailors are welcome to take one, two or all three of the sessions. Many of our “students” come back year after year and continue to build on their sailing skills. Our boats include Catalina 14.2’s, Catalina 22’s, Lasers and a Sonar. SUMMER STEP PROGRAM DATES

The club’s Safety Training and Education Program (STEP) will host various “learn to sail” clinics and camps this summer for youth.

The youth program will have three sessions to accommodate sailors coming to the program with varying degrees of sailing experience.  They are as follows:

Session One for the Beginning Sailor:

July 8th, 9th, 11th, and 12th.  This session is for the sailor new to sailing or with very little experience. Instruction will be on Prams, Optis and Sabots. For ages 8-12.

Session Two for the Beginning/Intermediate Sailor:

July 15-26 M,Tu,Th, F. This session is for the returning sailor that has some experience sailing or is a repeat camper or an older beginning sailors.  Instruction will be on Catalina 14.2’s. For ages 12 and up.

Session One and Two will be from 10:00am to 4:00pm

Session Three for the Advanced Sailor:  TBD

This session requires approval from the instructor and is for the advanced sailor.  Instruction will be on Lasers or the equivalent. This is a fast paced, intense course focused on racing strategies, team racing, match racing and sail trim.  Sailors will compete in the club’s Wednesday night racing program during the week of the camp. This session may be taken by youth and adults. There are a limited number of club Lasers, it is recommended that sailors bring their own boat.

Session Three will be from 4:00pm to sunset.
